Purchasing a recurve bow at a sporting goods store has gotten more difficult. Like guns, many sporting goods stores have decided to stop carrying weapons. Even though a bow and arrow is not a firearm, it is still considered a weapon.
If you’re lucky your local Walmart, Big 5, or Dick’s will have recurve bows but it’s actually unlikely. My Walmart used to have guns and bows just 5 years ago and now has neither. It’s probably a combination of lack of sales and companies trying to protect their image.
If you can find a sporting goods store that sells archery equipment, you’ll be able to look at a variety of recurve bows at a great price. Chances are none of the sporting goods store’s staff knows anything about recurve bows but at least you get to see the product before you purchase it.
The prices probably won’t be as low as Amazon but they’ll be cheaper than an archery store.
