About The PSE Razorback

Precision Shooting Equipment (PSE) is the largest privately-owned archery manufacturer in the United States. Based out of Tucson, Arizona, PSE has been manufacturing both compound bows as well as traditional takedown recurve bows and other archery related equipment since the 1970s.  We’ve reviewed a few of their bows and highlighted the best ones for you here!

The Razorback model is one of PSE’s most popular recurve models for teenagers, young adults and female archers!

The riser of the Razorback is made from laminated walnut, nurmawhite and beech wood and is designed to be rugged and long lasting. The limbs of this bow are a distinctive white and are made from laminated maple and fiberglass to ensure the limbs are strong and flexible when drawn.

This take-down bow doesn’t require any special tools, which is a very handy feature. You can easily unscrew and remove the limbs with your hands so it’s simple to transport and carry with you.

Recurve bow

The PSE Razorback recurve is available with draw weights from 10lb up to 35lb (including the Lil Razorback and Razorback Jr models). The “full size” Razorback is a gorgeous 62″ bow with four draw weight options. It is available at 20#, 25#, 30# or 35# @ 28″ draw and can be orientated for both right and left handed shooters. The light bow weight and low max draw make the Razorback a popular option among female archers and those who are new to the sport.

For younger archery enthusiasts, there is a smaller 54″ Razorback Jr model. This model is ideal for kids age 10 to 16. The Razorback Jr has draw weights of 15#, 20#, and 25# at 26″ so your kids won’t have to wrestle the bow and can focus on the  joy of making their shot!

Finally there is the Lil Razorback for even younger kids. The Lil Razorback is a 48″ bow and comes with draw weights of 10#, 12#, 14#, 16#, 18# and 20# @ 24″ draw. At these weights the bow can be used by kids as young as 7 years old!

Can I Take It Hunting?

The Razorback is a great entry level recurve bow but it is definitely built more for the range than for taking down live game. If you were to take it hunting, you will be hard pressed to actually take down a deer from beyond 25 yards even if you were to take your shot with the 35lb model.

If you’re just looking to shoot smaller game like wild turkey, the Razorback should do the trick. Although we would recommend sticking with the 35lb model for the extra bit of power! Also, the Razorback is one of the lightest takedown recurve options available so carrying it around with you on your hunting trip won’t be a big deal.

What Does The Bow Come With?

Most of the customers were very happy with their purchase and felt that the PSE Razorback offered excellent value for the price of the bow. For a lot of people this was one of the first bows they purchased and they were happy with the quality of the bow as well as how comfortable it was to hold and shoot.

The performance of the bow was a pleasant surprise to most of the reviewers since it easily met or even exceeded their expectations for a bow that only costs about $100!

So what about the remaining 14% of customers who left 1-star or 2-star reviews? The most common complaint from customers wasn’t about the performance or quality of the bow. Most negative reviews discussed issues related to shipping and delivery or a lack of familiarity with the contents of the package where the customer was expecting certain accessories that were not included.

A couple reviews also stated that they had issues with the limbs wearing out, however, they also mentioned that they kept the bow strung all the time! If you buy a new recurve bow, make sure you take care of it properly which includes unstringing the bow and removing the limbs from the riser before you store it away.
